![]() ![]() Let’s explore the different types of proprietary software and their open source alternatives. ![]() Many open source software publishers don’t charge people for using the software. Usually, all open source software allows the community to participate in development activities, bug-spotting and fixing, feature enhancement, etc. The user can modify the source code and redistribute it, giving due credits. Open source software, as the name suggests, has its source code made available to the user of the software. A person can use the software but cannot view the source code or modify it. This could be a one-time payment or a recurring cost in case of subscription based models. People have to purchase this software to be able to use it. In simple words, proprietary software is owned by the company or publisher, and its source code is kept secret. Back up everything first, of course. Before going ahead, we should understand the terms ‘proprietary software’ and ‘open source software’. Windows 10 and up has a "Refresh" which starts you over. In your case I would try to rule out hardware and 3rd party software issues, and then do a fresh install of Windows if needed. The cleaner your machine, the tighter it will operate. I also avoid installing a bunch of garbage on my audio machine. So rule out any hardware issues.Īlso - don't forget about your video cards. I recently had inexplicable problems which turned out to be related to a USB hub which was in the process of dying. Or else you have a hardware issue going on. In all likelihood you are using a 3rd party VST which is having problems. In terms of stability I think I'd say FL Studio is a 9/10, with only Reaper ranking above it at a 10/10. I have done some things in it including an incredible number of effects, VSTis, and WAVs going all at once. FL Studio as a software is really very stable. ![]() My question is - is there an alternative to FL studio that you can actually rely on, and it shares some similarities in the user interface and overall experience - so that the shift would be as painless as possible? No weird audio card bugs, no noticable stuttering, no software related crashes (ableton crashed once on our live recording session, but it was due to old PC and too many tracks for the memory). The thing is - i have seen how you can actually trust on these softwares. Now that i've used for example ableton & protools on various other studios and projects, well, the user interface feels unintuitive for a lifetime fl user. and that's been a growing love/hate towards the software. It was the first software that clicked and it kinda stuck on me.īut during the whole time, the software has been crashing, bugging, freezing, corrupting projects etc. I've been using this software since the version 2.7 demo, if i recall the version correctly, but anyways point being - for almost 15-20 years.
